Chicken Shawarma Is a dish of Middle Eastern, made with marinated and grilled chicken or roasted chicken, mostly served in a pita or wrapped with sauces.

Ingredients: For the marinade:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Half teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon

For serving:

  • Pita bread or wraps
  • Sliced vegetables (such as tomatoes, cucumbers, onions)
  • Pickles (such as pickled cucumbers or turnips)
  • Tahini sauce or garlic sauce (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine all the marinade ingredients and whisk until well combined.
  2. Add the chicken to the marinade and toss to coat the chicken in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat a grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  4. If using a grill, thread the chicken onto skewers. If using an oven, place the chicken on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Grill or roast the chicken for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until cooked through and charred in spots.
  6. Remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.
  7. Warm the pita bread or wraps in a pan or oven.
  8. Assemble the Chicken Shawarma wraps by placing the sliced chicken on the pita bread or wrap, and topping it with sliced vegetables, pickles, and sauce of your choice.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro if desired.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious homemade Chicken Shawarma!

You can customize the toppings and sauces according to your preference. Common options include sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickled vegetables, tahini sauce, garlic sauce, or even a drizzle of hot sauce.
